YEARLY CALENDAR

The Memorial Council Regular Monthly Meeting is on the Second Saturday of the Month at 9:30 a.m. in the National Cemetery’s Administration Building.  The general public is invited to attend.  Veteran Service Organizations (VSO’s) are strongly encouraged to send a representative to attend these meetings.

The Avenue of Flags presentation is set-up on the first Saturday in May at 8:00 a.m. The setting up of the Avenue of Flags (Flags Up) is a rain or shine work detail and takes about 2 hours. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old and drivers are to park at the parking lot of the PA Veterans Memorial. The array of flags is on display from the initial set-up in May until after Veterans Day in November. If you have an interment flag (a casket flag received at a funeral), you may donate that flag to the National Cemetery to be flown on the Avenue of Flags. CONTACT US for more information.

The Memorial Day Program is held at the PA Veterans Memorial on the Sunday before Memorial Day at 2:00 p.m. – rain or shine. Parking is on the parking lot of the Community Club on the Fort Indiantown Gap Military Reservation (the Post) and the Memorial Council will provide free shuttle-bus transportation for patrons attending the ceremony. There is very limited handicapped parking on the parking lot adjacent to the Pennsylvania Memorial. Handicapped visitors using that lot can catch a ride from their parked car to the Memorial’s plaza in a golf cart provided by the National Cemetery.

The Memorial Council’s Annual Meeting is on the Second Saturday of the Month in June at 9:30 a.m. in the National Cemetery’s Administration Building. Along with the regular business of the Memorial Council, the members present cast their vote for the four nominees to be the elected officers of the Memorial Council. The term of the offices of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer is for 12 months and an incumbent may run for re-election. Any dues paid member may be nominated for an office at the June Annual Meeting. The voting is done by secret ballot with the results announced directly after the count during the meeting. The general public is invited to attend. Veteran Service Organizations (VSO’s) are strongly encouraged to send a representative to attend these meetings.

No regularly scheduled meeting.  Enjoy your freedom by celebrating the nation’s efforts seeking for, fighting for and defending her new found independence on the 4th.

No regularly scheduled meeting. Visit the National Cemetery this month and take a few minutes to reflect on what emotional bonds this National Cemetery and others like it provide to the families of lost warriors.

The Wreaths Across America program is scheduled for the second or third Saturday in December – determined by the National Office of Wreaths Across America in Maine. It is presented at the PA Veterans Memorial at noon. Though the Memorial Council does not sponsor the Wreaths Across America program, it does support it and commends the efforts of the organizers and the volunteers and encourages all Memorial Council members and registered volunteers to participate. The Wreaths Across America program begins with a meaningful ceremony and then the volunteers place thousands of wreaths on the headstones in designated sections of the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

The Memorial Council-sponsored Holiday Candlelight Service is presented at the PA Veterans Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on the same day as the Wreaths Across America Event.

The volunteers who attended the Wreath ceremony and placed wreaths are advised to return on the shuttle bus to retrieve their car and then return to the National Cemetery to attend the Holiday Candlelight Service.
