Volunteer Information
If you are interested in volunteering for this project, there are only a few “rules” that need be followed. Three of the most important are
- All volunteers must be at least 13 years of age
- Youth under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult and
- All volunteers are to dress appropriately for the dignity of the task being performed in a National Cemetery.
Wearing the unit’s uniform and work gloves are encouraged. Weapons of any kind, (licensed to carry or not) are prohibited on this Federal Property. Pets are not allowed. Service animals are not pets.
The Avenue of Flags project qualifies as Community Service for both youth and adult Volunteers. Neither the National Cemetery nor the Memorial Council issue a community service verification letter for the volunteers but the Avenue of Flags Chairman will validate the organizations forms if presented at the time of service. For youth, this community service effort counts towards both their youth group’s organizational requirements for promotion in rank and their school’s community service fulfillment requirements for scholastic advancement.
For complete information about the “AVENUE OF FLAGS” project, donating interment flags to the Avenue, helping as a volunteer on the Avenue, please contact the Avenue of Flags Chairman, Bob Hauser:
